The big life of a little 2-year old

There is something magical about 2-year olds. Their minds are so impressionable yet so intelligent. They are simple creatures, needing only to find the next smile, the next secret adventure, the next song to which they can twist and shout, all in effort to make smaller and more familiar the ever-massive world around them.

I spent the afternoon with Domino today, dancing to Robbie Williams and U2, having imaginary tea with the babies, and swimming in the pool. She is such a delight. She is the kind of child that people want to be around. Her sharp chirping laughter arouses giggles from anyone listening. Her brilliance reminds me that I am not nearly as intelligent as I think I am or should be at 23-almost-24. Her sense of awareness, while utterly simple in the things it notices, seems to take in every move, every sound, every word, every expression. She truly never misses a beat. She is the delight and the exhaustion of those of us taking care of the household, and I only hope that my children harness the same joie de vivre.

The English lessons are running much more smoothly. The boys are picking up on hilarious expressions such as "just relax," or "gotcha!" or "what's the big idea?" It is funny to hear your words coming from someone else's mouth. It certainly requires me to take caution with my tongue all the more. I am really enjoying this "teaching" thing that I'm developing. I love preparing the lessons that will initially frustrate the boys and eventually be left as an underscore to their intelligence. They are brilliant, and I have the incredible opportunity to play a part in their brilliance.

I'll say it again, I'm reaping the seeds of one of the greatest decisions I've ever made. Cheers to the good life.
