Last day in France. Sad. I finally got the chance to see the Chateau de la Barben today. Carved into the side of a mountain, the 11th century chateau is a fortress unlike anything I have ever witnessed, and I am such a nerd, that I took both the medieval tour and the classic tour so that I would not miss the dungeons or the perfectly decorated bedrooms. I have never witnessed anything more glorious. I highly recommend it.
Saying "goodbye" is not natural for human beings perhaps because we were created to commune with people. Life is full only when there are people around. I am certainly among the lucky ones that have the glorious opportunity (and I do mean opportunity) to take on another adventure with the best of traveling companions: a family. I have so enjoyed my stay here in France with the Gros Colas' and I am more than thrilled to watch the world of Laguna Beach welcome them to the community. There was an overwhelming sense of excitement amidst an underlying sense of fear that has suddenly arrived to the house today. Perhaps it is the exhaustion of moving, the anticipation of the unknown, the nostalgia of the familiar. Whatever the cause, today was an unusual day full of almost goodbyes and ensuing hellos.
Less than twenty-four hours, and I will be able to once again stand under the stars and stripes that I know and love so well. Cheers to America, my home sweet home!

i really think you need to write for a magazine... like you should be the editor or something. you would have the best "letter from the editor" of any magazine!
scout.
France is a better place just from you being in it for a short time. You have left your mark on this family and I'm sure you will be remembered for years to come. I Love You, Mom
