I'm officially "cool"

Mark it down: I am an officially "cool" person. I went cliff diving with 10-year olds today. Yes, that's right, traipsing through the brush and insanely sharp trees that seem to launch out at you, stringing you along the crooked path that leads to the ever daunting cliffs. It was an end-of-the-school-year-bash alright. Complete with French-style pizza (with flat-bread and very little sauce...it's light and airy. I prefer it.), popsicles of all colors, des sucres (all kinds of candy), and the blessed reminiscent tunes of the classique U2. Yes, what is a 10-year old's party without U2? It was a glorious afternoon, I must admit.

Not only did I pellet into the water, but my baking skills have suddenly leaped, no, sky rocketed, to new heights. I baked a French cake, complete with European measurements, European ingredients, European kitchenware, and American flare this afternoon. Please tell me that you are impressed! With teeth grinding and ears burning, I was flat-out determined to make sense of the recipe writing and to successfully complete my first French cuisine. Laetitia chuckled as I sorely sifted the flour onto the scale to measure 150g...who WEIGHS ingredients before mixing? No wonder every food in Europe is considered a delicacy! Astonishingly enough, I sorted my way through the scribbled writing in the captain's pad notebook, melting true milk chocolate with soft butter and blending that with the measured flour and crystal sugar. So, yes, beleive it: the first attempt was a complete success. Twenty-two minutes later I pulled out a perfectly chocolate cake. Moral lesson of the day: You know you're a good cook when you can cook metric-style on the first attempt.

I told you that I added a bit of American flare to the cake, right? I made my mom's famous Red-Velvet Cake frosting to slather on the top. Well, apparently Europeans don't know what "frosting" is, because I got strange looks from the same 10-year olds that told me I was cool up on the edge of the cliff. Nevertheless, delight has a universal look, and when the kids tasted their first morsel, their smiles emanated utter delight. And, America wins again.

So, I am reading this new book, entitled Original Wit. I think I've told you about it already. I will not tantalize you with any brilliant quotes right now, but I will tell you that it's certainly worth the time. Read it.

To sum up today: I'm beat. Kids wear you out! As for tomorrow? I climb Saint Victoire, the mountain I see every morning when I wake up. Yes, believe me. You will hear all---about it.
